Branchlets slender, pubescent to hirsute when young, corticate and covered with numerous lenticels on older parts; spines axillary, slender, up to 5 cm. long.. Leaf-blades ovate to obovate, sometimes ovate-elliptic, apex shortly even rather abruptly obtusely acuminate, base cuneate to rounded, or even subcordate, a little oblique, at first thinly papery, more firm when fully grown, covered with ± appressed substrigose fine hairs on both faces, more densely or longer so along midrib and nerves, glabrescent with age, subentire to obscurely serrate, 5–14 cm. long, 2–6 cm. broad; lateral nerves 3–5 pairs, the lowest 1 or 2 pair(s) from the base or a little above, curved-ascending, raised beneath, reticulation obscure; petiole slender, 5–10 mm. long.. Male flowers 3–4(–6) per fascicle (which is sometimes shortly stalked), greyish-yellowish velutinous all over; pedicels slender, 3–5(–7) mm. long.. Calyx-lobes (4–)5–7, narrowly ovate-acuminate, 3–4(–5) mm. long, 1–2 mm. broad.. Stamens 40–50.. Disk-glands small, sparse between the filaments, pubescent distally.. Ovary tomentose; styles 15–20.. Hermaphrodite flowers, which occur rarely, as the ♀ ones, but with rather numerous stamens, and only 5 or 6 styles.. Fruit subglobular, a little flattened on top and at base, velvety to sparsely pubescent, 4–6(–7.5) cm. across when fresh, 2–3.5 cm. across in the dry state, pale orange yellow.. Seeds rather numerous, hairy.
