A submerged or drip aquatic several inches long, growing in masses, and either simple or more or less pinnated, with branches about 1 inch long, spreading widely; stem leaves 1-5 mm long, widely ovate-acuminate, deeply concave, not furrowed, spreading, decurrent, with entire margins, slender nerve half leaf-length, and long, narrow, rather obscure lamina cells up to 100 x 8 µ, those nearer the base shorter and wider, and those in the alar groups shortly hexagonal, 20 x 15 µ and less. Branch leaves scattered, spreading, mostly pellucid, deeply concave, often falcate and long-pointed, nerved three-fourths leaf-length, entire, and with lamina and basal cells similar to the stem leaves, but often no alar cells. The lamina cells are much more narrow than those of Amblystegium riparium. It is not known fertile.
