Characteristics

A tree up to 18 m. tall, with a straight bole and a dense crown.. Twigs greyish.. Buds perulate; perulae suborbicular, ciliate.. Young shoots and petioles sparingly golden patent-pubescent, soon glabrescent.. Petioles 1.5–3 mm. long; leaf-blade subrhombic-elliptic to elliptic-obovate, 2–5 cm. long, 1–2.5 cm. wide, subacute or obtuse at apex, cuneate at base, entire or remotely and indistinctly denticulate towards the apex, thinly coriaceous, lateral nerves 5 pairs, somewhat irregularly looped within the margin, tertiary nerves reticulate, those nearest the midrib not generally perpendicular to it and parallel, slightly prominent above and beneath, pubescent on the margins and at the apex when young, soon becoming quite glabrous, shiny, dark green, drying brownish.. Stipules spathulate, 2 mm. long, pubescent in the upper half, glabrous below, soon falling.. Flowers axillary, solitary or in small fascicles.. Male flowers: pedicels 1.5 mm. long, sparingly pubescent; sepals 4, suborbicular, concave, 1.5 mm. long, 1.5–2 mm. wide, rounded at apex, minutely sericeous-pubescent without, glabrous within, ciliolate, yellow; stamens 4, 2 mm. long, anthers 0.5–0.7 mm. long; disc flat, subentire, 2 mm. diameter, notched opposite the stamens, smooth, glabrous.. Female flowers not seen.. Fruits subglobose, shallowly bilobed, 8 mm. long, 9–10 mm. diameter, smooth, sparingly pubescent, yellowish green.. Seeds ovoid, 6–7 mm. long, brownish streaked with white.
