Characteristics

Tree to c. 8 m high. Leaves alternate; petiole 1–1.5 cm long with an evident basal pulvinus; lamina lanceolate-elliptic, 6–9 cm long, 2.5–3 cm wide, acute at base and apex, crenate-dentate and each tooth apiculate when young, raised reticulate; primary veins 3 or 4 on each side of midrib, with evident domatia in axils of lower veins below. Inflorescence axillary, c. 3 cm long, 8–10-flowered; flowers pendant. Sepals 5, narrowly lanceolate, 5–6 mm long, finely appressed tomentose dorsally. Petals 5, c. 8 mm long, white, apically fimbriate. Stamens numerous, 4–5 mm long; anthers linear with two long, apiculate appendages. Ovary conical, 2–2.5 mm long, villous; style apiculate, c. 4 mm long. Drupe ovoid, c. 2 cm long, blue when ripe.
