Species

Pteridophytes > Polypodiales > Dryopteridaceae > Elaphoglossoideae > Elaphoglossum

Characteristics

Rhizome long-creeping, bearing fronds 1-3 cm apart; scales thin, light brown, 4 by 2-3 mm, triangular, tip blunt to acute, edges subentire; phyllopodia 1-2 cm long. Sterile frond: stipe 5-15 cm, when young scaly as rhizome; lamina thin but firm, 11 by 3 to 28 by 5 cm, narrowly elliptic (largest with sides parallel in middle part), apex short-acuminate, base slightly decurrent; thin edge nearly 1 mm wide, translucent; veins at a rather wide angle, distinct on lower surface, their ends joining a thickened submarginal band in which they bifurcate and form a ± continuous vascular com-missure; costa not very prominent beneath; mature fronds glabrous except for a few scales on or near costa beneath, as those on stipe but smaller. Fertile frond: stipe to 18 cm or more long; lamina 13 by 2.2 to 22 by 3 1/2 cm, base more abruptly contracted than sterile, thin edge somewhat narrower.
More
Rhizomes long creeping, 3-5 mm thick, densely scaly; scales brown, ovate, 4-7 mm, membranous, margin entire or slightly ciliate, apex acute. Fronds remote; sterile fronds 11-30 cm, stipe stramineous, 5-15 cm, sparsely scaly; lamina lanceolate to elliptic-lanceolate, 6-15 × 1.5-3 cm, leathery, brown when dry, with very sparse, small, brown, stellate scales, base cuneate, margin entire, thickened and slightly reflexed, apex acute; midrib obvious, prominent on both surfaces, with occasional brown, linear scales, thinly grooved above, secondary veins inconspicuous, forked, terminating at margin; fertile fronds: stipe 15-20 cm, lamina somewhat narrower.
