Leaves alternate; nanophylls absent; stipules linear or narrowly triangular, 4-7 × 0.5-1 mm, strigose; without cystoliths, petiole 0-1 mm; leaf blade obliquely obovate-oblong or oblong, 3-15 × 1.2-4 cm, herbaceous or papery, major basal lateral veins asymmetric, 1 basal, the other arising above base, both surfaces strigillose along veins; cystoliths conspicuous or obscure, dense; base obliquely cuneate, margin dentate, apex acuminate or cuspidate. Male inflorescences solitary, simple, 5-10 mm in diam.; pedunculate, receptacle 1.5-3.5 mm in diam.; bracts connate, bracteoles spatulate-linear or cymbiform. It is a tropical and subtropical plant. It grows near the edges of forests between 200-1,800 m above sea level. In Northeastern India it grows between 1,700-2,000 m above sea level. In Yunnan.
