Erect annual herb 45–80 cm tall; stems almost glabrous.. Stem leaves sessile, lanceolate to oblanceolate (in the lower) or oblong, 3–10 cm long, 0.4–2 cm wide, base auriculate and semi-amplexicaul, margins subentire, apex obtuse to subacute, apiculate, almost glabrous.. Capitula solitary, long-stalked, discoid; stalk glabrous, swollen beneath the capitulum; involucre broadly cylindrical, 6.5–8.5 mm long, 4–12 mm in diameter; phyllaries 8–9, 6–8.5 mm long, glabrous.. Ray florets absent; disc florets bright orange or yellow; corolla 8–8.2 mm long, lobes 2 mm long.. Achenes 1.6–2.4 mm long, shortly hairy; pappus 3.5–4.5 mm long.
