Characteristics

Annual herb 10–60 cm tall; stems ascending, reddish-purple and shortly pubescent in lower part.. Leaves sessile, bright green, glaucous and ± purple-tinged beneath, those on the lower part of the stem ovate or broadly ovate, 2.1–5 cm long, 1.2–2.5 cm wide, cordate and decurrent onto a narrow exauriculate petioloid base, margins sinuate-dentate, apex obtuse, pubescent beneath; those in the upper part of the stem elliptic to oblong, the lower of these often somewhat pinnate-lyrately lobed, 0.8–9 cm long, 0.2–3 cm wide, base expanded and auriculate, margins subentire to sinuate-dentate, apex obtuse.. Capitula few in lax corymbs, discoid; stalks of the individual capitula slender, glabrous; involucre cylindrical, 3.5–4 mm long, 1 mm in diameter; phyllaries 8–10, bright green tinged purple, 3–3.5 mm long, glabrous.. Disc florets mauve or pink; corolla 5–5.5 mm long, lobes 1.5–1.7 mm long.. Achenes 1.3 mm long, hairy; pappus 3 mm long.
