Annual or short-lived perennial herb 10–125 cm tall; stems slender, erect or basally decumbent and then erect, pubescent to glabrous, sometimes purplish distally.. Leaves sessile, somewhat subsucculent, the basal spatulate to oblanceolate or narrowly elliptic, 1.1–6.5 cm long, 0.2–1.3 cm wide, attenuate into petioloid base, obscurely sinuate-denticulate, apex obtuse to acute; median and upper sessile, narrowly oblanceolate, narrowly elliptic, elliptic, lanceolate or linear, 3–16 cm long, 0.2–0.7 cm wide, base attenuate, subentire or sinuate-serrate to sinuate-denticulate, apex obtuse to acute; all leaves scattered-pubescent to glabrous.. Capitula 3–14 in lax to congested or subumbelliform terminal corymbs, discoid; stalk slender, glabrous or shortly sparsely pubescent; involucre cylindrical, 4–6.5 mm long, 1–2 mm in diameter; phyllaries 6–9 or 13, usually 8, green tinged purplish in distal part, glabrous or shortly pubescent at least towards the apex..
