Characteristics

Erect annual herb ± 40 cm tall; stems scattered-pubescent.. Leaves sessile, the lower broadly spatulate, median oblanceolate or elliptic, upper lanceolate, 1–7 cm long, 0.3–2 cm wide, base cuneate in lower leaves, shortly sagittate in upper ones, margins obscurely sinuate, apex obtuse, apiculate, scattered-pubescent, at least on midrib beneath.. Capitula 3–4 in lax terminal corymbs, discoid; stalks of the individual capitula pilose near apex; involucre cylindrical, 5–5.5 mm long, 1.5 mm in diameter; phyllaries 8, 5.5–6 mm long, pubescent.. Disc florets presumably purple; corolla 5–5.7 mm long, tube glabrous, lobes 1.3–1.5 mm long, those of the outer florets the larger; ovary 0.8 mm long, hairy; pappus 3 mm long.
