Annual herb, caespitose, erect, much branched from the base, 15–40 cm tall; stems sparingly pubescent in lower part, glabrescent, or glabrous.. Leaves sessile, crowded, oblanceolate, elliptic or linear-lanceolate, 2.5–10.8 cm long, 0.3–1.8 cm wide, base sometimes somewhat attenuate, margins remotely obscurely to distinctly sinuate-dentate or sinuate-serrate, apex obtuse to acute, sparsely pubescent with long hairs to almost glabrous, glabrescent.. Capitula solitary, discoid, long-stalked, stalks of the individual capitula glabrous; involucre cylindrical, 6–7.5 mm long, 2.5–3 mm in diameter; phyllaries 7–13, green, 5.5–7 mm long, glabrous.. Disc florets pale lilac to purple, corolla 5.2–7.5 mm long, lobes 1.3–2 mm long.. Achenes 2.5–3.4 mm long, shortly hairy, with tufts of longer hairs at base and apex; pappus 2.5–5.3 mm long.
