Characteristics

Short-lived perennial herb 15–70 cm tall; stems decumbent, glabrous except sometimes towards the base.. Leaves sessile, green tinged purple; lower broadly ovate, weakly cordate, subrotundate or broadly cuneate and narrowly decurrent onto petioloid base, margins sinuate-serrate, apex rounded; median and upper spatulate, oblanceolate or elliptic-lanceolate, 1.7–4.2 cm long, 0.2–1.3 cm wide, decurrent onto a broadly winged, basally semi-amplexicaul petioloid base; all shortly pubescent beneath, less so to almost glabrous above, purple-tinged.. Capitula 7–10 or more in moderately lax corymbs, discoid; stalks of individual capitula glabrous; involucre cylindrical, 2.5–4.5 mm long, 1–1.5 mm in diameter; phyllaries (5–)8(–10), 3–4 mm long, glabrous.. Disc florets purple or violet, corolla 2.5–3.5 mm long, lobes 1–1.5 mm long, those of the outer florets the longer.. Achenes 1.4–1.5 mm long, shortly hairy; pappus 2–3 mm long.
