Characteristics

Erect annual herb to 60 cm tall; stems almost glabrous, slightly mauve-tinged.. Leaves petiolate; blade broadly reniform, 2–6.5 cm long, 3–7 cm wide, exauriculate, base cordate to cordate-subtruncate or broadly cuneate in upper leaves, margins shallowly sinuate-dentate, apex rounded, pilose beneath near base, otherwise glabrous; petiole slender, slightly mauve-tinged to purple, glabrous, 3–8.5 cm long.. Capitula solitary, discoid, long-stalked; involucre cylindrical, 10–11 mm long, ± 7 mm in diameter; phyllaries 8, green, glabrous, 10–11 mm long.. Ray florets absent; disc florets bright orange to orange-yellow, 9–11 mm long, tube glabrous, lobes 3–3.5 mm long, those of the outer florets the longer.. Achenes 6.5 mm long, slightly rostrate, shortly hairy; pappus 6–8 mm long.
