Characteristics

Erect or decumbent annual herb 14–80 cm tall; stems light green, smooth, glabrous.. Leaves sessile, lanceolate, 2.2–13 cm long, 0.4–2 cm wide, base sagittate, auriculate and semi-amplexicaul, margins minutely obscurely to clearly sinuate-denticulate, especially on the auricles, apex obtuse, apiculate, glabrous.. Capitula 2–4 in lax, divaricate terminal cymes, discoid; stalks of the individual capitula slender, glabrous; involucre cylindrical, 5–7 mm long, 2 mm in diameter; phyllaries 8 or 13, 4.5–7 mm long, glabrous.. Disc florets pale mauve or violet, corolla 5.5–6.5 mm long, tube glabrous, lobes 1.2–2 mm long, those of the outer florets the larger.. Achenes 2.8–4 mm long, glabrous; pappus 2–4 mm long.
