Characteristics

Tree to 20 m high. Stem usually buttressed. Twigs fluted or terete, pubescent. Leaves: petiole 7–20 mm long; lamina elliptic to lanceolate, 6.5–15.5 cm long, 2.5–6 cm wide, not foveolate, glaucous and pubescent below. Inflorescence axillary and pseudoterminal, not exceeding leaves. Flowers opening widely but with tepals tips pointing upwards, creamy brown, creamy green, ± perfumed. Tepals pubescent: outer 1.1–1.7 mm long, 1–1.6 mm wide; inner 0.9–1.3 mm long, 0.8–1.1 mm wide. Anthers 0.4–0.6 mm long, 0.4–0.6 mm wide, mainly glabrous; filaments 0.2–0.4 mm long, pubescent; valves opening outwards or sideways; glands 6. Staminodes 3, usually differentiated. Ovary 0.5–0.8 mm long, 0.5–0.8 mm wide, usually glabrous (occasionally hairy), style glabrous. Fruits ellipsoidal, 22–28 mm long, 10–12 mm wide, purplish black. Cotyledons cream.
