Perennial shrub or small tree. Leaves opposite, expanded, 15-50 mm long, membranous, scarcely white-hairy on venation above and below. Flowers 5-7 in heads, cream-coloured to pale yellow. Hypanthium 4-lobed; tube cylindric, ± 9 mm long, base silky white-hairy, neck shortly hairy; sepals ± 4 mm long, ovate or lanceolate. Petaloid floral scales 4, bipartite, appearing as 8 linear or oblong lobes, almost as long as sepals, membranous. Stamens 8. Flowering time Dec.-May. Fruit a nut, enclosed in persistent base of hypanthium.
