Genus

Angiosperms > Fabales > Fabaceae

Characteristics

Unarmed evergreen trees. Leaves paripinnate; stipules apparently connate into a minute intrapetiolar scale; petiolules not twisted; leaflets opposite or subopposite, in 2–5 pairs, petiolulate, equal-sided at base, without translucent gland-dots. Flowers in fairly lax irregular terminal panicles; bracteoles 2, well-developed, valvate, completely enclosing the flower-buds, persistent. Receptacle cup-shaped. Sepals 6(–7, fide Harms), the posticous one rather broader than the rest and 2-toothed at apex. Petals 6–7, subequal. Stamens 12–14: 6–7 exserted, well-developed, fertile, alternating with 6–7 much smaller included ones with very small anthers. Ovary inserted at base of hypanthium, shortly stipitate (stipe not projecting beyond receptacle), tomentellous; ovules 4–5(–6, fide Harms); style elongate, glabrous above; stigma small, capitate, scarcely wider than style. Pod short, dehiscing into 2 flattened woody valves marked with faint obliquely transverse nerves; upper suture not winged. Seeds 1–2, large, on short funicles (fully mature ones not seen).
