Large spreading deciduous tree ± 20 m. high, with scaly bark.. Leaves up to 30 cm. long; leaflets 10–14, opposite or subopposite, ovate to lanceolate or oblong-lanceolate, up to 9 × 4 cm., asymmetric, apex acute to shortly and bluntly acuminate, base unequally rounded to obliquely subcordate; lower surface softly pubescent, especially on nerves and in nerve axils; lateral nerves in 7–11 pairs, venation closely reticulate, scarcely prominent above, more distinct beneath: petiolules 0.1–0.5 cm. long; petiole not flattened, densely and softly hairy.. Inflorescence an elongate, slender contracted panicle up to 27 × 2–4 cm.; inflorescence-axes and calyx densely pilose.. Flowers similar to those of E. utile but much smaller; petals 0.2 cm. long.. Capsule similar to that of E. utile but valves very closely mottled with smaller buff lenticels outside and pale buff inside with indistinct markings.. Seeds (including wing) ± 9 × 2.5 cm., pale buff, rounded at the base.
Deciduous Commiphora thicket, often with Cordyla densiflora, Adansonia digitata; deciduous woodland and bushland; at elevations from 785-1,220 metres.
