Perennial herbs of wet habitats. Leaves opposite. Capitula axillary, sessile or subsessile, radiate or disciform; involucre with 4–6 phyllaries in opposite pairs, the outer leafy; paleae sheathing the florets. Ray florets in 1–several rows, female, the ray short, 3–4-dentate, or absent; disc florets hermaphrodite, fertile or the innermost sterile, tubular, 5-lobed; anthers obtuse at base, with terminal appendage; style arms linear, puberulous. Achenes surrounded by paleae, oblong, compressed; pappus absent.
