Characteristics

Leaves lanceolate, 4--5 cm × 3--4 mm, veins 6--9. Scapes ca. 22, 4--18 cm, 4-ribbed; sheath 3--4.5 cm; receptacle densely villous; heads blackish, subglobose, ca. 4 mm in diam.; involucral bracts straw-colored, broadly ovate-orbicular to obovate-oblanceolate, ca. 2 × 1.5 mm, glabrous, apex obtuse; floral bracts obovate-oblanceolate, 2.1 × 0.9 mm, margin sparsely ciliate, apex acute. Male flowers: sepals 3, spathelike, sparsely hairy; petals 3, subequal, hoary, white clavate hairy at apex, gland absent; stamens 6, anthers black. Female flowers: sepals 3, blackish, free, lanceolate, narrowly keeled, ca. 1.5 × 0.5 mm, subequal or one smaller than others, sparsely hairy, apex acuminate; petals 3, lanceolate, subequal, hairy at margin and apex, gland absent; ovary 3-loculed; style 3-cleft. Seeds ovoid-ellipsoid, ca. 0.4 mm in diam.; testa reticulate, cells ribbonlike. Fl. and fr. Oct.
