Characteristics

Leaf well developed at flowering time, held obliquely erect on flower stem well above ground level, broadly ovate, 40–750 × 5–30 mm, dark green, glabrous, margins smooth, apex acute. Flower stem 200–500 mm long, wiry, green, hairy (on type specimens), 3–25-flowered. Flowers widely spaced, 15–20 × 10–12 mm, reddish with prominent white lateral sepals. Dorsal sepal spathulate, 6–12 × 3–4.5 mm. Lateral sepals 12–22 × 3–4.5 mm, hairy (on type specimens), basal stalk c. 3 mm long. Petals held close to column, 6–9 × 0.5–1.5 mm, with reddish stripes. Labellum greenish with red markings, 6–12 × 3–6 mm when flattened; midlobe ovate to elliptic, 4–8 × 4–5 mm, fleshy, greenish with tufts of red and white bristles. Column 6–8 × 2–3 with a greenish yellow anther.
