Characteristics

Perennial prostrate herb; stems tomentose and with red glandular setae.. Leaves sessile, broadly obovate or oblong, 4–9 cm long and 2–6 cm wide, narrowed to an auriculate semi-amplexicaul base, margins serrulate, apex obtuse to rounded, apiculate, setulose on the veins and densely tomentose beneath, setulose and thinly tomentose above.. Capitula radiate, few, terminal and in upper leaf axils; involucre campanulate, 17–20 mm long; phyllaries 4–5-seriate, progressively longer inwards, outer broadly ovate, median and inner broadly oblong, 3–15 mm long, all rounded, apically shortly laciniate-dentate, araneose towards the margins and purplish at the apex; receptacular scales oblong or narrowly so, membranous, glabrous, minutely laciniate at the hardly expanded apex, 13–14 mm long.. Florets ± 30; corollas dark red; marginal florets bilabiate, reddish purple, 15–35 mm long, the limb 14–26 mm long; disc florets 14–17 mm long, glabrous, lobes 4–5.5 mm long.. Ovaries pubescent, mature achenes unknown; pappus of 3–5 whitish marginally barbellate acute setae, 7–12 mm long.
