Leaves narrowly ovate, 4-9 cm long, 0.4-1.1 cm wide, base cuneate, margins remotely serrate, apex attenuate, finely pubescent.. Capitula in rather congested compound cymes; stalks of individual capitula 0-6 mm long, thinly ascending-pubescent; involucre 2.5-2.7 mm long; phyllaries dark green or purplish in centre towards apex, 2-3-seriate, elliptic, 2.5 mm long, obtuse, sparsely glandular, ciliate.. Florets 19-25 per capitulum; corolla violet, 4-4.5 mm long.. Achenes turbinate or somewhat compressed, 1.2-1.7 mm long, 3-5-ribbed or-winged, with a short apical rim or cup.
