Characteristics

Herb, at least 50 cm high (probably more); stems striate, possibly angular, shortly ascending-pubescent.. Leaves elliptic, 3-4 cm long, 0.5-1 cm wide, base cuneate into a petiole of 2 mm, margins obscurely serrate, apex acute, sparsely shortly hairy especially on veins beneath.. Capitula numerous in rather lax divaricate compound corymbose cymes; stalks of individual capitula 1-7 mm long, shortly ascending-hairy; involucre hemispherical, 2.5-4.5 mm in diameter at flowering time; phyllaries 3-seriate, ovate or oblong, 2.2 mm long, obtuse, ciliate, inner membranous on upper margins and at apex, glandular and purplish in centre towards the apex.. Florets ± 25 per capitulum; corolla 2.3 mm long, lobes 0.7-1 mm long.. Achenes (immature) with a strongly asymmetrical apical tubular cup 0.6-0.7 mm long.
