Characteristics

Tree to about 90 m with usually patchy orange-yellow, bronze or white smooth bark throughout.. Juvenile leaves broadly ovate to round; adult discolorous, broadly lanceolate, 9–12 cm long, 2–3.2 cm wide; petiole channelled, 1–2 cm long.. Umbels 7-flowered; peduncle flattened or angular (± terete), 1.8–2.8 cm long; pedicels 3–6 mm long.. Buds clavate; operculum rounded, conical, 5–7 mm long and wide.. Calyx-tube cylindrical to obconical, 7–8 mm long, 5–7 mm wide.. Fruits ovoid or subglobular, 8–12 mm long, 7–10 mm wide with broad descending disc and 3 prominent flush [slightly exserted] or included valves.. Fig. 6/11.

Tall, dense, massively branched, evergreen tree, 25-58 m high; bark smooth, except at butt, grey to orange-yellow in blotches. Leaves dark green and glossy above, distinctly paler beneath; adult leaves lanceolate, 100-140 mm long; juvenile leaves broader or ovate, 40-80 mm long. Flowers cream-coloured with long-exserted stamens, buds with conical lids, up to 14 mm long. Flowering time May-Dec. (all year). Fruit a brown, globose capsule, up to 12 mm long, with enclosed valves.
