Characteristics

Shrub or small tree 2.4–6 m. tall, the leafless lower parts of the branches with a peeling brown epidermis.. Young leaves flushed reddish; leaf-blades oblong or oblong-obovate, 7–28 cm. long, 2.2–11 cm. wide, acuminate at the apex, cuneate at the base, glabrous above, pubescent beneath on main nerves, the midrib and in the nerve-axils; petiole 0.6–4 cm. long; stipules chaffy, narrowly ovate-triangular, 0.5–1.6 cm. long, 4 mm. wide, persistent.. Pedicels up to 1.2 cm. long in fruit.. Calyx-tube glabrous, 4–6 mm. long; tubular part of limb up to 1.5 mm. long; lobes linear-to triangular-lanceolate, 0.9–1.6 cm. long, 1.5–2.2 mm. wide, ± spreading.. Corolla white turning cream; tube 16–24 cm. long, the main part narrowly cylindrical, the uppermost part widened out to form a funnel-shaped portion 2.5–6 cm. long, 2–6 cm. wide; lobes 5, elliptic-oblong, 1.5–5 cm. long, 1.2–3.5 cm. wide..
