Characteristics

A slender palm. The trunk is supported by prop roots. These thorny roots are up to 2 meters long. It forms clumps. Above this are palm-like leaf stalks, a meter long. The leaves are 6 m long on leaf stalks almost as long. They are stiff and do not arch over. The leaflets are widely spaced and 1 m long. They grow in a single flat plane. The fruit are hard and brown. Young fruit are eaten.
