Characteristics

Shrub to 2.4 m; young stems (in part), petioles, underside of midrib, pedicels and particularly calyx-tube all densely short ferruginous-hairy or velvety; bark on twigs grey and fissured.. Leaves oblong, 3–9.2 cm long, 2–4 cm wide, narrowed to a rounded apex, shallowly cordate at the base, with few hairs on midrib etc. above but soon glabrous, also a few hairs on blade beneath but only persistent on midrib; petioles 2 mm long.. Fascicles 3–11-flowered; bracteoles 0.8 mm long, ciliate, but glabrous outside; pedicels 3–10 mm long, densely spreading pubescent; sepals 2 ± semicircular, 3.5 mm long, 2 mm wide, 2 ± circular, 4 mm long, 4 mm wide, all ciliate, concave and reflexed.. Petals pinkish white, elliptic or oblong, 7–8 mm long, 4–5 mm wide, ciliate, reflexed at anthesis.. Disc densely shortly pubescent.. Stamens at least 50, variable in length in one flower, 2–6.5 mm long; anthers 1 mm long.. Style 5 mm long, ± pilose; stigma 0.7 mm wide.. Fruits unknown.
