Species

Angiosperms > Asparagales > Orchidaceae > Eulophia

Characteristics

Plants: pseudobulbs mostly aerial, linked by sub-cylindrical underground portions 5-20 mm long; leaves somewhat coriaceous, up to 200-300 x 8-15 mm, margins with minute scabrous venations; flowering stem 450-600 mm tall. Inflorescences lax, 3-24-flowered. Flowers: sepals and petals yellowish green tinged purple, lip greenish yellow basally to white distally, crests white with minute purple speckles near lip base. Sepals and petals subequal, sepals erect; median sepal (14-) 15-19 (-22) mm long, narrowly oblong-lorate to sub-oblanceolate, acute; lateral sepals similar; petals as long as the sepals, lanceolate to narrowly ovate, acute, apices recurved. Lip obscurely 3-lobed, crests consisting of densely crowded papillae centrally, flanked by low ridges and occasional short papillae; midlobe deflexed; mentum 4-6 x 3-4 mm, forming with the distally adnate side lobes a conical sac and terminating in a dorsiventrally compressed, slightly bilobed spur 3-5 mm long. Gynostemium 9-11 mm long, with a papilla 1.2 mm long arising on either side of the rostellum, operculum with 2 small divergent distal lobes.
