Characteristics

Plants with subterranean, moniliformous rhizomes; leaves thin-tissued, absent to partly developed at anthesis, up to 200 x 6 mm; flowering stem 220-630 mm tall. Inflorescences lax, 2-10-flowered. Flowers: sepals green, tinged brownish purple, petals green outside and yellow-green within, veins dull purple, lip side lobes pale yellow-green, midlobe white, crests pale green. Sepals 17-46 mm long, narrowly linear-spathulate, widely spreading. Petals about half as long as the sepals. Lip 3-lobed, crests consisting of 2 low ridges passing distally into a few rows of lamellae and papillae; midlobe frequently broader than long, slightly crispate; side lobes adnate to the base of the mentum; mentum 2-5 mm long; spur conical to subcylindrical, 2-4 mm long. Lip 10–16 mm long, 6–11 mm wide when flattened, 3-lobed in the apical third; side lobes erect, oblong, rounded; mid-lobe c. 5 × 7–10 mm, transversely elliptic, obtuse or emarginate; callus of 3 ridges, turning to papillae on the mid-lobe; spur 2–5 mm long, conical to cylindrical, at right angles to lip.
Terrestrial herb, up to 0.6 m high. Sepals linear, ± twice as long as petals. Side lobes of lip pale yellowish green, midlobe white with lamellae and papillae forming crests pale green. Flowers green to yellowish green, tinged with dark purple.
