Characteristics

Plants with subterranean, moniliformous rhizomes; leaves partly to fully developed at anthesis, usually arcuate-spreading, somewhat coriaceous, up to 150-400 x 10-30 mm; flowering stem 230-400 mm tall. Inflorescences rather lax, 4-20-flowered. Flowers mostly quite unresupinated, occasionally ovaries slightly twisted, never through more than c. 20°; sepals pale to dark chestnut brown outside, pale green within, petals white tinged yellow, lip white, uncrested main veins purple, crests pale to bright yellow. Sepals and petals partly spreading; median sepal 20-28 (-33) mm long; petals a little longer to shorter, usually rotund. Lip crests consisting of 2-5 lamellae in the basal half, reaching 2 mm high, with a few rows of acuminate papillae distally, usually terminating about half-way along the midlobe; mentum 1-2.5 mm long; spur cylindrical, 5-8 mm long. Gynostemium 5-8 mm long.
