Characteristics

Plants with largely aerial pseudobulbs bearing leaves near the apex and broad caducous sheaths below, pseudobulbs linked by short, cylindrical, subterranean portions 5-10 mm in diameter; leaves 2-4 (rarely 5), stiffly erect to arcuate-spreading, thick-tissued, deeply sulcate adaxially, up to 400 x 44 mm, margins with scabrous irregular enations 0.3-0.5 mm high; flowering stem unbranched or branched, 0.9-2 m tall. Inflorescences lax, several-flowered. Flowers: sepals dark green and purple, petals green, lip side lobes green, midlobe white tinged pink. Sepals spreading, widely diverging, often circinnate apically; median sepal (19-) 23-28 (-33) mm long, lorate to narrowly oblanceolate, apiculate; lateral sepals similar. Petals slightly spreading with circinnate apices, slightly shorter than sepals, narrowly obªlong, acute. Lip 3-lobed, crests consisting of laªmellae rising to more than 1.5 mm tall centrally, often somewhat dissected, main veins elsewhere with very low broad ridges; midlobe crispate; side lobes elliptic; mentum 2-8 mm long; spur cylinªdrical, 2-8 mm long. Gynostemium 10-13 mm long, operculum bilobed.

Terrestrial herb, up to 200 mm tall. Leaves with serrulate margins. Petals acuminate, narrowly oblong with apices often circinnate. Flowers green, marked with purplish brown, midlobe of lip white with crests purplish red to pink.
Perennating organs pseudobulbous, mostly above ground, 4–23 × 1–4 cm, ovoid, conical or cylindrical, with 4–6 nodes, green at first, turning yellow and ribbed; roots stout, 4–5 mm in diameter.

Inflorescence up to 3 m tall, usually with 3–7 branches; peduncle stout with 4 bracts.
Petals 16–22 × 4–8 mm, oblanceolate or oblong, apiculate, curled back at the tips.
Sepals and petals green, veined with purple-red; lip white, marked with red.
Column 8–9 mm long, lacking papillae; the foot 1–2 mm long.
Spur 4–6 mm long, subcylindrical, usually incurved.
