Characteristics

Plants with subterranean, moniliformous rhizomes; leaves somewhat coriaceous, partly developed at anthesis, up to 230 x 16 mm; flowering stem 250-450 mm tall, occasionally with 1 or 2 simple branches. Inflorescences somewhat lax, 6-15-flowered. Flowers: sepals greenish purple to chestnut brown, paler on the inner surface, petals and lip pale slightly greenish lemon-yellow, main veins bluish grey along the margins of the midlobe and on the lip side lobes. Sepals and petals partly spreading, subequal; median sepal (14-) 15-17 (-18.3) mm, narrowly oblong to elliptic-oblong, obtuse to mucronate; lateral sepals similar. Petals about as long as the median sepal, rotund to elliptic, obtuse. Lip 3-lobed, crests consisting of 3-5 rather fleshy subentire lamellae, rising to c. 2 mm high on the midlobe and reaching to within 2 mm of lip apex; side lobes adnate to the greater length of the mentum; mentum 4-9 mm long; spur elongate, conical, 2-3 mm long. Gynostemium 7-11 mm long.
