Perennating organs underground, tuberous, ovoid-spherical or fusiform, 15–30 mm. long, 13–24 mm. diameter, drying orange; roots fine, 1–1.5 mm. diameter, from base of new growth.. Leaves 4–5, erect, linear, acute, 20–30 cm. long, 4–5 mm. wide, basal 3 sheathing.. Inflorescence laxly few-flowered; peduncle 2 mm. diameter, with 2–3 tubular subacute sheaths in basal half; rhachis 2–7 cm. long; bracts reflexed, linear-lanceolate, acuminate, 10–20 mm. long.. Flowers subnutant, not opening widely; sepals and petals dull purple or maroon with paler bases to the segments.. Spur greenish to creamy purple; pedicel and ovary 12–14 mm. long..
