Characteristics

Plants with subterranean, moniliformous rhizomes; leaves fully developed at anthesis, reaching 100-420 x 2-6 mm; flowering stem 150-600 mm tall. Inflorescences dense, 5-25-flowered. Flowers: sepals dark green to brownish purple, petals dull straw-yellow outside, pale brownish purple within, lip dull pale purplish brown, meªdian crest on the lip midlobe bright cadmium-yellow. Sepals and petals partly spreading, sub-equal; median sepal (5.3-) 6-8 (-8.5) mm long, oblong to elliptic-oblong, mucronate; lateral seªpals similar; petals rotund to elliptic-ovate, as long as the median sepal, obtuse to mucronate. Lip 3-lobed, with part of the distal margin of the side lobe overlapping a small portion of the base of the midlobe, crests consisting of fleshy suben-tire ridges and lamellae, rising to about 0.7 mm high on the 3 central veins, very low on the distal parts of the side lobes; mentum absent; spur stoutly cylindrical, 2-3 mm long. Gynostemium stout, 3-5 mm long.
