Characteristics

Plants with subterranean, moniliformous rhizomes; leaves somewhat coriaceous, more than half the length of the flowering stem at anthesis, 200-400 x 3-7 mm; flowering stem 150-350 mm tall. Inflorescences rather lax, 4-17-flowered. Flowers: sepals green tinged purplish brown, petals pale blue with the margins and apices tinged purple, lip pale blue, crests mostly white, lateral crests pale blue to purple. Sepals and petals partly spreading, subequal, petals a little longer; median sepal 7-9 (-9.5) mm long, oblong, apiculate; lateral sepals similar; petals somewhat longer than sepals, elliptic-oblong, obtuse to mucronate. Lip 3-lobed, with longest axis of the elliptic side lobes lying at about 45°, crests consisting of fleshy verrucose ridges on the central veins of the lip, rising to about 0.5 mm high on the midlobe; mentum absent; spur stoutly cylindrical, 2-3 mm long. Gynostemium stout, 3.5 mm long.
