Characteristics

Shrub, or tree to 7 m high. Leaves simple; petiole 0.5–2 cm long; lamina elliptic, 6–18 cm long, 2.5–5.5 cm wide, becoming glabrous, with 11–17 secondary veins on each side of midrib, divergent at angle of c. 70°. Inflorescences 1.5–13.5 cm long; axis nearly glabrous or strigillose. Sepals 1–1.5 mm long, adaxially pubescent. Petals 2–2.5 mm long, white or cream, adaxially pubescent or sparsely so, subpersistent in fruit. Anthers 0.5–0.6 mm long. Gynoecium with pilose ovary and ±glabrous style; stigma punctiform, becoming inconspicuously 4-parted. Follicles 5–6 mm long; exocarp becoming glabrous. Seeds 4–4.5 mm long, reddish brown.
