Euryops annuus Compton

Annual acaulescent glabrous herb. Leaves rosulate, several-many, pinnatipartite or somewhat irregularly bipinnatipartite in the distal half, (1-)2-10 cm long, flattened, fleshy, dark green, 1-3-veined basally when dry or without distinct veins; leaf segments 1-3 mm wide; leaf-lobes ± spreading, entire or few-lobed-pinnatipartite, up to 15 mm long, obtuse; leaf-base somewhat dilated. Peduncles solitary-many from the base, erect or usually ascending, 5-40 cm long, filiform and slender to fairly stout, 0.2-2.5 mm thick, terete. Involucre urceolate, flatbased, 0.5-2 cm in diam., green, indistinctly netted-veined in the basal portion. Involucral bracts 8-20, connate to 1/3-1/2 or slightly more; the free parts deltoid-ovate-oblong, subuniseriate, 2.5-5 mm long, 1.5-4 mm wide, herbaceous, with many (6-15) narrow veins, acute or subacute, some membrane-edged. Receptacle flat, nude. Ray-florets 7-18, bright yellow. Tube 0.5-2 mm long, cylindrical. Lamina elliptic-oblong-narrowly oblong, 8-15 mm long, 1-6 mm wide, (2-)4-7-veined. Style terete; style branches 0.8-1 mm long, with truncate-obtuse tips. Disc-florets often very numerous, c. 30-200. Corolla 2-3.5 mm long. Tube 0.8-1.2 mm long, cylindrical. Limb campanulate, 1.2-2.5 mm long; lobes deltoid-(narrowly) ovate, 0.7-1 mm long, with minutely papillate tips. Anthers 1-1.5 mm long incl. the narrowly ovate, subacute appendage. Style terete with somewhat swollen base; style branches 0.5-0.7 mm long, with truncate or somewhat convex tips. Pappus bristles few-several, 0.8-2 mm long, finely barbellate with spreading teeth, white. Achenes narrowly oblong-oblong-obovate, c. 2 mm long, 0.7-1 mm wide, densely white-brownish villous with fairly short (0.1-0.3 mm long), appressed-erecto-patent hairs, becoming mucilaginous when soaked, under the indumentum light brown, with c. 8 longitudinal ribs.
