Characteristics

A much-branched erect shrublet, forming dense sprawling cushions, glabrous except for leaf-axils; young branches closely leafy, becoming defoliated with age and clothed with imbricated, scale-like, triangular, acute or sometimes cuspidate (from the persistent midrib) leaf-bases. Leaves ± spreading, becoming reflexed before withering, linear, 7-15 mm long, 1.52 mm wide, entire, flattened, somewhat fleshy, pure green, obtuse, finely impressed-midveined on the adaxial side, mid-ribbed esp. towards the base on the abaxial side; leaf-base dilated, half-clasping, with thin margins, ciliolate along the margins, arachnose in the axil. Peduncles terminal, solitary, erect, 1-5 mm long, after anthesis elongating to c. 2 cm, c. 0.5 mm wide, terete, somewhat striate. Involucre campanulate, 5-7 mm wide, 4-6 mm high, coriaceous. Involucral bracts 8-10, uniseriate, connate to the middle; the free lobes narrowly ovate-lanceolate, 2.5-4 mm long, 1-2 mm wide, with 3 distinct resiniferous veins, obtuse-subacute, with puberulous margins and tips. Receptacle somewhat convex, distinctly alveolate. Ray-florets 8-10, yellow. Tube c. 0.5 mm long, cylindrical. Lamina narrowly elliptic-oblong, 7-9 mm long, 3-4 mm wide, 4-veined. Style branches c. 0.7 mm long, obtuse-rounded at the apex. Disc-florets c. 15. Corolla 3-4 mm long. Tube 0.5-1.5 mm long, cylindrical. Limb campanulate, c. 2.5 mm long; lobes narrowly ovate, c. 1 mm long and 0.5 mm wide, with subcucullate tips. Anthers c. 1.5 mm long incl. the narrowly oblong-ovate, acute or subacute appendage. Style terete or flattened with somewhat swollen base on a short stylophore; style branches 0.2-0.3 mm long, with papillate outsides and truncate-slightly convex tips, at least sometimes probably sterile. Pappus bristles fairly numerous, 2-3 mm long, ±erect, white. Achenes obovate, 3-3.5 mm long, c. 1.5 mm wide, glabrous, greenish-yellowish brown, with 8(-9) light brown ribs.
