Characteristics

An erect, much-branched, low shrub, up to c. 5 dm high, dense and rounded, glabrous except for leaf-axils and peduncle-bases; branches ± straight, leafy in the upper parts, lower down nude and cicatricose with leaf-bases or leaf-scars; cortex brown or greyish. Leaves closely set, erecto-patent-spreading, linear-filiform, 7-12 mm long, 2-3-forked below the middle or some entire, somewhat coriaceous, bright green; rachis and lobes 0.5-1 mm wide, subterete-flattened, finely impressed-midveined on the adaxial side; lobes sub-erect-erecto-patent, 4-8 mm long, acute, ± distinctly white-apiculate; leaf-base somewhat dilated, laxly arachnose in the axil when young, glabrescent. Peduncles terminal, solitary, erect, 2-8 mm long, after anthesis elongating to 8-15 mm long, 0.6-0.9 mm thick, terete, slightly widening below the involucre, with a woolly tuft at the base. Involucre bell-or cup-shaped with a + truncate base, coriaceous, straw-coloured-yellowish green, faintly or distinctly veined, 7-10 mm high and wide. Involucral bracts 8-11, uniseriate, connate to 3/5-2/3; the free lobes deltoid-narrowly ovate(-lanceolate), 3-4 mm long, 1-3 mm wide, obtuse-acute, with mostly blunt, ciliate tips. Receptacle convex, distinctly alveolate. Ray-florets 6-9, yellow. Tube 2-2.5 mm long, cylindrical. Lamina oblong-narrowly elliptic-oblong, 7-11 mm long, 2.5-4 mm wide, 4(-5)-veined, distinctly 3(-4)-fid at the apex. Style terete with somewhat swollen base; style branches 0.8-1.2 mm long, with obtuse-rounded tips. Disc-florets c. 20-25. Corolla 5-5.7 mm long. Tube 2-2.5 mm long, cylindrical. Limb narrowly campanulate, 3-3.2 mm long; lobes (narrowly) ovate, 1-1.2 mm long, with subcucullate tips, minutely papillate on the outsides. Anthers 2-2.2 mm long incl. the oblong-ovate, obtuse-subacute appendage. Style terete with swollen base; stylophore short but distinct; style branches 0.7-0.9 mm long, minutely papillate on the outsides, with convex tips. Pappus bristles few, very short, 0.2-0.5 mm long, white, flexuous, densely barbellate. Achenes narrowly (elliptic-)oblong or subclavate, sometimes with a faint constriction below the top, 3-5 mm long, 1-1.5 mm wide, glabrous, yellowish-dark brown, with 10(-12) light or reddish brown, shiny, fairly thick, resiniferous ribs.
