A much-branched, erect, vigorous shrub, up to 1.5 m high, glabrous (apart from leaf-axils); branches ascending or divaricate, often short, leafy at the ends, lower down nude; cortex becoming grey or black. Leaves ± closely set, often fascicled on brachyblasts, erecto-patent-spreading, 0.5-2 cm long, coriaceous, greyish glaucous, flattened, cuneate, basally linear-oblong and 1-2 mm wide, faintly midveined, widening towards the apex, up to c. 1 cm wide, apically 3-lobed with usually forking (seldom 3-or 4-lobed or-toothed) lateral lobes; leaf-lobes often short and tooth-like, c. 1-2 mm wide, apically obtuse and apiculate with a white and firm, at length blunt point; leaf-base half-clasping, in the axil somewhat arachnose, glabrescent. Peduncles lateral in the upper leaf-axils, solitary or few on each branchlet, erect or ascending, 1.5-4.5 cm long, 0.6-1 mm thick, terete, sometimes striate. Involucre hemispherical, c. 0.8-1 cm in diam. Involucral bracts 6-9, subuniseriate, partly overlapping, basally connate, oblong-oblong-ovate, 5-7 mm long, 2-4 mm wide, distinctly 3-5-veined, usually purplish towards the apex, margins often submembranous, tips obtuse and ciliate. Receptacle somewhat convex, alveolate. Ray-florets 5-7, yellow. Tube cylindrical, 1.3-2 mm long. Lamina elliptic-oblong, 5-6 mm long, 2-3 mm wide, 4-veined. Style terete with swollen base; style branches 0.8-1.3 mm long, truncate-obtuse. Disc-florets c. 20-30. Corolla 4-5 mm long. Tube 1.5-2 mm long, cylindrical. Limb campanulate, 2.5-3 mm long; lobes ovate-narrowly ovate, 1-1.2 mm long. Anthers 1.8-2.2 mm long incl. the ovate obtuse appendage. Pollen grains 25.6-31.7 µ in diam. Style fertile or sterile, terete or flattened with swollen base; stylophore short; style branches 0.1-0.6 mm long, with sometimes rudimentary stigmatic surfaces, apically penicillate with truncate or slightly convex tips. Pappus bristles numerous, 2-2.5 mm long, white, erect, distinctly barbellate or almost subplumose. Achenes copiously lanate, incl. indumentum 0.5-1 cm long and wide, without indumentum obovate-pyriform, 4-5 mm long, 2-2.5 mm wide, brown, with 5 faint but basally distinct ribs; hairs up to 5-7 mm long, thin, white, somewhat flexuous, not mucilaginous when soaked in water.

Shrub, up to 1.5 m tall, with stiffly erect branches. Leaves crowded on short-shoots, greyish-glaucous, cuneate and trifid, 5-20 x 10 mm, lobes broad and flattened. Flowerheads solitary in upper axils on peduncles 15-45 mm long, radiate, yellow; involucre hemispherical, 8-10 mm diam., bracts 6-9, free almost to base. Cypselas hairy.
