Characteristics

A low, erect or decumbent, moderately branching, glabrous shrublet a few dm high; branches erect-ascending, fairly slender, leafy in the upper parts, lower down nude and cicatricose; cortex grey-brown. Leaves laxly-closely set, erect or suberect(-erecto-patent), narrowly linear, (1.5-)2-6 cm long, 0.8-1.5 mm wide, entire or some with 1-2 lateral lobes above the middle, thickish and coriaceous, somewhat flattened, straight, finely midveined on the adaxial side or without distinct veins, obtuse, bluntly apiculate with a minute firm point. Peduncles terminal, solitary, erect, 8-22 cm long, 0.7-1.2 mm thick, terete, faintly sulcate-striate, with a small tuft of wool at the base. Involucre broadly cupshaped with a truncate, flat base, widening above with straight or somewhat convex sides to 9-15 mm in diam., 5-9 mm high, firm and coriaceous, faintly or sometimes more distinctly many-veined. Involucral bracts 11-16, uniseriate, connate to c. 2/3; the free lobes deltoid-narrowly triangular, erect, 2-3.5(-4) mm long, acute or somewhat acuminate, often with a purplish tinge, with puberulous margins and tips. Receptacle ± flat, distinctly alveolate with raised, denticulate pit margins. Ray-florets 11-18, yellow. Tube 1-2 mm long, cylindrical. Lamina narrowly oblong-elliptic-obovate, 8-15 mm long, 2.5-5.5 mm wide, 7-veined. Style terete or flattened with swollen base; style branches 0.7-1 mm long, with truncate-rounded tips. Disc-florets c. 50-90. Corolla tubular, gradually widening above, 2.7-3.3 mm long; lobes deltoid-narrowly ovate, 0.5-0.6 mm long, with cucullate tips. Anthers 1.2-1.5 mm long incl. the ovate obtuse appendage. Style terete with swollen base; stylophore short but distinct; style branches 0.3-0.5 mm long, truncate. 250 Pappus bristles numerous, 1.5-2.5 mm long, erect, ± straight, white. Achenes elliptic-oblong, somewhat compressed, 3-4 mm long, c. 1.5 mm wide, glabrous, dark brown-almost black, shiny, with 8-10 thick, semiterete, close-lying ribs.
