Characteristics

Low shrublet, decumbent or forming lax cushions, glabrous except for leaf-axils; stems ascending or decumbent with short branchlets, closely leafy in the upper parts, lower down nude and clothed with imbricated withered leaf-bases; cortex brown or blackish. Leaves ± spreading, narrowly linear-filiform, 1-3 cm long, some entire and some 2-4(-5)-sect above the middle, coriaceous or somewhat carnose, subterete or flattened, midribbed (especially towards the base) on the abaxial side, finely impressed-midveined on the adaxial side; leaf segments up to 1 cm long, c. 1 mm wide, obtuse and bluntly apiculate with a minute, often whitish, firm point; leaf-base dilated, half-clasping, 3-nerved, membranous towards the margins, woolly along the margins and in the axil. Peduncles terminal, erect, solitary or few together, 12-25 cm long, c. 1 mm wide, terete, often striate, straw-coloured or greenish-brownish. Involucre broadly cupshaped-almost hemispherical, 8-12 mm in diam. Involucral bracts 13-18, uniseriate, 5-6 mm long, connate to slightly above the middle or to 2/3, coriaceous, with 1-3 distinct resiniferous veins; the free parts deltoid-narrowly triangular, 2-3 mm long, acute or somewhat acuminate, puberulous-tipped. Receptacle slightly convex or almost flat, alveolate. Ray-florets 11-17, yellow. Tube c. 1 mm long, cylindrical, at length subcorneal with inflated base. Lamina elliptic-oblong-narrowly obovate-lorate, 6-8 mm long, 1.5-2.5 mm wide, 4-5-veined. Style terete with swollen base; style branches 0.5-0.8 mm long, obtuse-truncate. Disc-florets c. 40-80. Corolla 2.5-3 mm long. Tube 0.8-1 mm long, cylindrical, at length somewhat inflated basally. Limb narrowly campanulate, 1.5-2 mm long; lobes narrowly triangular-subdeltoid with subcucullate tips. Anthers 1.2-1.5 mm long incl. the ovate-oblong obtuse appendage. Style terete or flattened with eventually distinctly swollen base; stylophore distinct; style branches 0.4-0.7 mm long, truncate. Pappus bristles several, 1-2 mm long, flexuous, white. Achenes oblong-obovate, 3.5-4 mm long, 1.2-2 mm wide, somewhat compressed or angled, with 8-11 distinct ribs, densely silky-villous with short, appressed-erecto-patent, white or light brownish hairs.
