Characteristics

Rather lax glabrous shrubs, up to 1 m high, moderately or much ramified from the base or middle. Branches ascending or divaricate, closely leafy towards the ends, lower down nude; cortex grey or light brown. Leaves laxly-rather closely set, suberect-spreading, often apically recurved, lanceolate-(narrowly) ovate or elliptic-oblong, 3-13(-16) mm long, (1-)1.5-4 mm wide, entire, flattened or sometimes thicker and keeled beneath, firm and coriaceous, ± glaucous, with a faint or distinct, sometimes prominent midrib on the abaxial side, acute or subacute-obtuse, mucronate, with rigidly ciliolated margins. Peduncles lateral in the upper leaf-axils, few-many on each branch, 0.5-4 cm long, 0.3-1 mm thick, terete or striate. Involucre hemispherical, 0.5-1 cm in diam. Involucral bracts 5-6(-7), uniseriate or subuniseriate, connate to 1/4-1/6; the free lobes ovate-narrowly ovate-oblong, 3-6 mm long, 2-4 mm wide, 3-10-nerved, somewhat coriaceous, obtuse(-acute), with entire margins and distinctly puberulous tips. Receptacle flat or somewhat convex, distinctly alveolate with raised pit-margins. Ray-florets 0-5. Tube c. 1 mm long, cylindrical. Lamina elliptic-elliptic-oblong, 2.5-5 mm long, 2-2.5 mm wide, 4(-5)-nerved. Style terete with 0.7-1 mm long truncate branches. Disc-florets c. 13-30. Corolla 3-4.5 mm long. Tube 1-2 mm long, cylindrical. Limb campanulate, 2-2.5 mm long; lobes ovate-narrowly ovate, 0.7-1.4 mm long. Anthers 1.5-2 mm long incl. the ovate obtuse appendage. Style terete or flattened with 0.6-1 mm long truncate branches; stylophore short, often indistinct. Pappus bristles numerous, 1-2 mm long, white, ± erect, often some reflexed, distinctly barbellate or subplumose. Achenes obovate, slightly compressed, angled or curved, 2.5-4 mm long, 1.5-2 mm wide, densely sericeous or lanate with long, white or light brownish hairs, mucilaginous when soaked, with 5 indistinct veins under the indumentum.
