Characteristics

Stout shrubs, 0.5-1.8 m tall; stem little-branched in the upper parts, simple below. Leaves lorate-lanceolate-narrowly oblong or elliptic-oblong, (3-)4-10 cm long, 7-20 mm wide, with a distinct midrib and faint or indistinct lateral veins. Leaf-margins completely entire and smooth or minutely crenulato-undulate. Apical leaf-teeth 3-4, narrowly ovate-lanceolate, 2-8 mm long, 1-3 mm wide, acute or acuminate, sometimes minutely mucronate or apiculate. Peduncles usually 2-5 together, 2-6 cm long, c. 1-1.5 mm thick, striate, thickened below the involucre. Involucre 1-2 cm in diam., green-yellowish green. Involucral bracts 12-18, 6-13 mm long, connate to c. 1/3-1/2; the free lobes narrowly ovate-lanceolate, 4-7 mm long, 2-4 mm wide, faintly veined, puberulous-tipped. Ray-florets: Tube 1-2.5 mm long, cylindrical. Lamina elliptic-oblong, 9-17 mm long, 2.5-5.5 mm wide, 4-7-nerved. Style branches 0.6-1 mm long. Disc-florets c. 60-100 or more. Corolla 4-5.5 mm long. Tube 1-2 mm long, cylindrical. Limb 2.7-3.5 mm long; lobes ovate-narrowly ovate, 0.8-1.5 mm long. Anthers 1.8-2.2 mm long incl. appendage. Style branches 0.6-0.9 mm long. Pappus bristles 2.5-4 mm long, evenly barbellate with erecto-patent-spreading leetti. Achenes obovate-oblong-obovate-elliptic-oblong, 3-4 mm long, 1.5-2 mm wide, glabrous, shiny brown, with 8-10 broad and distinct ribs.
