Characteristics

A low vigorous shrublet; stems erect or decumbent, short but stout, 6-12 cm long, simple or forking, densely leafy, becoming nude basally. Leaves very closely set, mostly 3-forked from or above the middle, some entire, 2-5 cm long, young leaves suberect-erecto-patent, laxly to moderately densely pilose, older spreading to reflexed, glabrate; leaf-segments linear, subterete-flattened, subcoriaceous, (0.5-)l-2 cm long, c. 1 mm wide, finely impressed-veined on the adaxial side, subacute-obtuse with a blunt firm tip; leaf-base dilated, c. 3 mm broad. Peduncles terminal, solitary or 2 together, erect, 20-35 cm long, 1-1.5 mm thick, glabrous, terete or somewhat striate, usually brownish or straw-coloured. Involucre wide and flattish, somewhat meniscoid, c. 2-2.5 cm in diam., glabrous. Involucral bracts uniseriate, 21-27, connate for more than half their length; the free lobes lanceolate-narrowly triangular, 4-6 mm long, 1-2 mm wide, 3-lined, acuminate, with puberulous margins and tips. Receptacle convex, honey-combed with thin pit-margins. Ray-florets 20-35, yellow or orange-yellow. Tube cylindrical from a somewhat inflated base, 1-1.5 mm long. Lamina narrowly elliptic-oblong, 20-25 mm long, 3.5-4.5 mm wide, 4-veined. Style terete with swollen base; style branches 0.5-0.8 mm long with truncate penicillate tips. Staminodes sometimes present, filiform. Disc-florets c. 300-400. Corolla 3.2-3.5 mm long. Tube cylindrical, 1-1.5 mm long. Limb narrowly campanulate, 2-2.5 mm long; lobes deltoid, c. 0.5 mm long. Anthers c. 1.5 mm long incl. the ovate obtuse appendage. Style terete with swollen base; style branches 0.6-0.8 mm long with truncate or somewhat convex tips. Pappus of few (1-8) minute caducous serrulate bristles, 0.1-0.2 mm long, or 0. Achenes oblong, 1-2 mm long, 0.6-1 mm wide, often compressed, indistinctly ridged, dark brown-blackish, densely puberulous with short whitish papilliform hairs.
