Characteristics

Much-branched, erect, rounded, rather dense and wide shrubs, 0.4-1(-1.5) m high, glabrous, with rich surface resin; branches slender, ± flexuous, ascending, leafy at the tips, otherwise nude and rough with leaf-scars; cortex greyish brown or usually blackish. Leaves erecto-patent or mostly spreading, (2-)5-15 mm long, linear, 3(-5)-lobed above the middle and some often entire, coriaceous and somewhat fleshy, flattened; lobes and rachis 1-1.5 mm wide, finely impressed-veined on the adaxial side; lobes 1-7 mm long, erecto-patent, obtuse and distinctly mucronate. Peduncles lateral in the upper leaf-axils, few-several on each branchlet, ± erect, 1-4 cm long, 0.3-0.5 mm thick, terete, smooth or faintly striate, with 2(3) lateral leaves in the axil; these well developed or sometimes reduced and small; young axils with a few deciduous hairs. Involucre hemispherical or somewhat cupshaped, 5-8 mm in diam. Involucral bracts subuniseriate, 8-12, connate to 1/4-1/3 or almost to the middle, lanceolate-narrowly oblong, 3.5-5.5 mm long, 1-2 mm wide, distinctly (1-)3-nerved, with a blue-purplish tinge, sub-coriaceous with thinner margins, with puberulous upper margins and tips, obtuse(-subacute), somewhat gibbous towards the base. Receptacle flat or somewhat convex, distinctly alveolate. Ray-florets 5-7, yellow. Tube 0.7-1 mm long, cylindrical. Lamina elliptic-oblong-obovate-narrowly oblong-obovate, 3.5-5 mm long, 1.5-3 mm wide, 4-5-veined. Style terete with swollen base; style branches 0.6-1 mm long, broad, obtuse-truncate. Disc-florets c. 20-35. Corolla 3.2-4.5 mm long. Tube 1-2 mm long, cylindrical. Limb campanulate, 2-2.5 mm long; lobes deltoid, 0.7-0.9 mm long. Anthers 1.5-2 mm long incl. the ovate obtuse appendage. Style sterile, terete or flattened with swollen base on a distinct stylophore; apex clavate, slightly convex, simple or very shallowly lobed. Pappus bristles fairly numerous, 1.5-2 mm long, white, ± erect. Achenes obovate or broadly pyriform, 3-3.5 mm long, 2-2.5 mm wide, sometimes slightly flattened or three-angled, with 6-8 thick and blunt brown ribs, glabrous above, in the basal half densely whitish-brownish papillate.
