A low compact shrub with a vigorous, up to 0.5 m long taproot and strongly lignified partly subterranean stem and branches; upper branches aerial, short and thick, leafy at the tips, lower down defoliated and clothed with imbricated brown leaf-bases; subterranean parts with grey irregular and rough cortex. Leaves crowded at the ends of the aerial branches, erecto-patent, 0.7-3 cm long, pinnatipartite with linear, flattened, 0.5-1(-2) mm wide lobes and rachis, widening towards the base, midribbed esp. towards the base on the abaxial side, finely impressed-veined on the adaxial side, laxly pilose with long thin hairs, setulose with shorter stiff hairs along the margins; leaf-lobes opposite or subopposite or sometimes alternate, erecto-patent-spreading, 3-7 on each side, up to 8 mm long, entire or laxly pinnatifid, usually with a short extra lobe at the base on the abaxial side, mucronate(-acuminate) with a white bristle-point; leaf-base dilated, faintly 3-5-veined, pilose-lanate in the axil with thin white hairs. Peduncles terminal, solitary (or a few close together), erect, 5-22 cm long, 0.6-1.2 mm wide, glabrous, terete, striate, with a woolly tuft at the base. Involucre hemispherical-widely campanulate, 0.7-1.4 cm in diam., glabrous. Involucral bracts 8-12, uniseriate, connate to the middle or slightly more, 3-5-veined, 5-8 mm long; the free lobes (narrowly) ovate, 2-4 mm long, 1.5-3 mm wide, acute or somewhat acuminate, with submembranous margins and ciliate-puberulous tips. Receptacle convex, distinctly alveolate with denticulate, raised pit-margins. Ray-florets 6-13, yellow. Tube (0.1-)0.5-1.5 mm long, cylindrical. Lamina oblong-narrowly elliptic-oblong, 5-8 mm long, 1.5-3 mm wide, 4-5-veined. Style subterete-flattened with swollen base; style branches 0.7-1 mm long, obtuse-truncate. Disc-florets c. 50-100. Corolla 3-4 mm long. Tube 1-1.9 mm long, cylindrical, eventually with somewhat inflated base. Limb widely campanulate, 2-2.2 mm long; lobes ovate, 0.8-1 mm long. Anthers 1.2-1.5 mm long inch the ovate obtuse appendage. Style sterile, flattened with swollen base; stylophore distinct, c. 0.3 mm long; style apex tipped with a blunt cone, simple or emarginate-shallowly lobed, style branches up to 0.3 mm long. Pappus bristles few-several, 0.5-1.5(-2) mm long, flexuous, white, distinctly barbellate-subplumose. Achenes broadly elliptic-oblong, 4-5 mm long, 3-4 mm wide, somewhat compressed, densely velutinous with short,± spreading, light brownish hairs (not mucilaginous when soaked), with c. 5 nerves under the indumentum.
