Characteristics

A much-branched rigid shrublet less than 3 dm high. Young branches closely leafy, arachnose towards the tips, older branches nude and glabrous. Leaves imbricated, erecto-patent, linear-subulate from a dilated base, somewhat curved upwards, entire, 2-5 mm long, c. 0.5 mm wide, thick and keeled, gibbous towards the tips, apiculate with whitish points, glabrous, sometimes sparsely ciliolate-margined near the base. Peduncles lateral in the uppermost leaf-axils, erect, 5-15 mm long, c. 1/4 mm wide, terete, glabrous, usually green. Involucre cupshaped, 2-3 mm wide, 2-2.5 mm high, glabrous, green. Involucral bracts 6-8, subuniseriate, free from the base, with partly overlapping margins, lanceolate-narrowly obovate, acute-obtuse, 1-3-nerved, gibbous at the base, somewhat membranous towards the margins. Receptacle convex, deeply alveolate. Ray-florets 5-6, yellow. Tube c. 0.8 mm long, cylindrical. Lamina elliptic-oblong, 2.5-3 mm long, 1.2-1.5 mm wide, 4-nerved. Style terete with swollen base; style branches 0.5-0.7 mm long, truncate-obtuse. Disc-florets c. 10-20. Corolla 2.2-2.5 mm long. Tube 0.5-0.7 mm long, cylindrical. Limb widely campanulate, 1.7-1.8 mm long; lobes narrowly ovate, 0.7-0.9 mm long. Anthers c. 1 mm long incl. the ovate obtuse appendage. Style terete with swollen base; stylophore short; style branches 0.3-0.5 mm long with somewhat convex tips. Pappus bristles few, 1-2 mm long, erect, white. Achenes narrowly elliptic-oblong, c. 1 mm long and 0.5 mm wide, densely pubescent with brownish, fairly short, erecto-patent hairs, with c. 5 ribs.
