Characteristics

A much-branched glabrous erect shrub, 1-10 dm tall. Branches erecto-patent or ascending, closely leafy. Leaves imbricated, suberect-erecto-patent, 3-10 mm long, pinnati-partite, curved inwards, firm and leathery, bright green; leaf-lobes in (1-)2-3 (rarely 4) pairs, ± spreading, linear-subulate, acute-acuminate, subpungent, (0.5-)1-2 mm long, c. 0.5 mm wide or somewhat less; rachis subterete or flattened, 0.5-1 mm wide; rachis and lobes keeled on the abaxial side; leaf-base decurrent. Peduncles terminal and solitary at the branch tips and ramification points, erect, 5-20 cm long, 0.5-0.8 mm thick, terete, smooth or faintly striate. Involucre widely campanulate, 7-11 mm in diam. Involucral bracts uniseriate, 10-13, connate to 1/3 or almost to the middle, lanceolate, 4-5 mm long, acute-acuminate, often blue or purplish towards the tips, midveined or 3-lined but often indistinctly so. Receptacle alveolate, convex, often hemispherical. Ray-florets 8-13, yellow. Tube cylindrical, 0.7-1 mm long. Lamina narrowly elliptic-oblong-linear, 6-15 mm long, 1.5-2.5 mm wide, 4-veined. Style subterete or flattened; style branches 0.3-0.6 mm long. Disc-florets c. 30-70. Corolla 3-3.5 mm long. Tube cylindrical, 0.8-1 mm long. Limb narrowly campanulate, 2.2-2.5 mm long; lobes ovate-narrowly ovate, 0.5-0.9 mm long. Anthers 1-1.5 mm long incl. the ovate acute appendage. Style terete, basally with a short, often dark coloured stylophore; style branches 0.3-0.5 mm long, with shortly conical tips. Pappus 0. Achenes (narrowly) oblong with an apical constriction, 1.5-2(-2.6) mm long, 0.8-1 mm wide, light brown, glabrous, smooth or faintly ribbed with 8-10 low indistinct ribs.

Similar to E. bolusii but leaves stiff and ascending, 3-10 mm long, lobes mucronate. Achenes almost smooth.
